Yen Bai seeks cooperation with Canada in climate change, green growth

YBO - Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Yen Bai province Ngo Hanh Phuc expressed his hope that the Canadian government will assist the province to implement wastewater treatment, climate change adaption, green growth and high-tech agricultural development projects, among others during a recent meeting with Fiona Mackenzie, Southeast Asia Regional Director of Canada's Cowater International.

The province has prioritised attracting high-tech, environmentally friendly projects while creating favourable conditions to lure strategic investors with capacity and experience in implementing large-scale investment projects in the fields of industry, tourism, services, agriculture, thereby increasing competitiveness of local agricultural products both in domestic and international markets.

The vice chairman praised the Canadian government, through Cowater International, for implementing the "Small and medium-sized enterprises promote resilience, inclusion and innovative transformation (SPRINT) programme" in Yen Bai province. The programme aims to help ethnic minority in line with the goal of improving production capacity of local businesses and people.

He also hoped that in the coming time, the Canadian government will pay more attention to supporting and implementing many socio-economic development projects in the province.

Fiona Mackenzie said that Cowater International hopes for close coordination from relevant local departments and sector for the effective and prompt implemention of the SPRINT programme.

She showed her interest in agriculture, tourism, poverty reduction efforts for ethnic minorities, as well as activities to improve climate change and those to support the programme in the coming time.

On this occasion, Mackenzie and her entourage worked with the province's relevant departments and sectors on the SPRINT programme funded by the Global Affairs Canada.

The programme is carried out in Van Yen district and other potential districts in Yen Bai province for six years, starting from 2023. The total budget of the programme is 9.75 million CAD. This is a non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) project of the Canadian government for Vietnam and has been approved and funded by Global Affairs Canada.

Luc Yen District presents the provincial decision recognizing Dong Quan Commune as meeting NTM standards for 2024.

Luc Yen District has recently have two additional communes, Dong Quan and Khanh Hoa, officially recognized by the Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee as meeting the criteria for new rural standards (Nông Thôn Mới - NTM) in 2024.
