The 3ha plant, invested by the EREX joint Stock Company of Japan and the Sakura Green Energy joint Stock Company, is designed to produce 150,000 tonnes of biomass pellets and 150,000 tonnes of wood chips, and trade in 350,000 tonnes of wood chip products each year.

High-quality wood pellets are used widely, such as fire fuels for thermal power plants, fireplaces, industrial burning equipment, and animal feed drying systems.

The project is expected to create jobs for Yen Bai residents and contribute to local economic recovery. It is the first among the 14 projects that the EREX joint Stock Company plans to carry out in Vietnam.

Honna Hitoshi, Chairman and General Director of the EREX joint Stock Company, said that thanks to support from Yen Baii authorities, the biomass fuel plant project was quickly granted the investment certificate, enabling the firm to implement the project smoothly.

Chairman of the Yen Bai provincial People’s Committee Tran Huy Tuan hands over the project approval decision and presents congratulations flowers to the EREX joint Stock Company of Japan.

The factory will help with Vietnam’s efforts to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions and ensure stable power supply, thus meeting economic development demand in Yen Bai province and Vietnam at large, he noted.

Vietnam boasts considerable biomass resources, so the use of biomass fuels like waste wood products as a source of sustainable energy will be the key to achieving net zero emissions in the country.

The start of the plant construction was an important event as it also formed part of activities in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam - Japan diplomatic relations (1973 - 2023).
