YBO - As a highland commune facing difficulties, with over 90% of its population being ethnic minorities, Nam Lanh Commune in Van Chan District has consistently focused on implementing policies to support production development, ensure stable livelihoods, and improve the well-being of ethnic minority communities. These efforts have contributed to poverty reduction and enhanced the material and spiritual lives of the people.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a house for Mr. Ban Thua Tien's family, a low-income household facing housing difficulties, took place in Giang Cai Village.

Ban Thi Nay, Chairwoman of the Nam Lanh Commune People's Committee, stated: "The livelihoods of Nam Lanh’s residents mainly depend on agriculture and forestry. Therefore, to support economic development, the commune prioritizes investing in upgrading rural infrastructure, providing technical cultivation support, and promoting the transition of crops and livestock."

Each year, to ensure effective livestock farming, the commune actively promotes the transformation of crops and livestock structures, encourages the application of scientific and high-tech methods in production, and links these efforts with branding and product traceability. The commune also facilitates access to preferential loan sources to help households expand their production.

Efforts are made to conduct regular vaccination programs, select high-quality breeds to maintain stable livestock herds, and protect animal health. Notably, to enhance knowledge and awareness, the commune actively collaborates with relevant district agencies and departments to organize vocational training courses and transfer scientific and technical knowledge on animal husbandry to local residents.

Attending a training course on product traceability, quality management, and promotion organized in collaboration with Nam Lanh Commune, Ly Thi Thim, Director of Nam Lanh Cooperative, shared: "The training has helped us gain a firm grasp of product quality management and broaden our understanding of brand building. I found the brand development knowledge particularly useful, and I believe that applying these insights in practice will create unique distinctions for our cooperative’s mang sat products."

Additionally, to support residents in escaping poverty, Nam Lanh Commune has actively integrated various programs and projects, such as the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the New Rural Development Program, and the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas. These initiatives aim to support production development, stabilize livelihoods, and promote sustainable poverty reduction.

Over the past three years, with financial support from the state and contributions from the people, the commune has upgraded rural infrastructure and transportation with a total investment of over 12 billion VND. Of this amount, residents contributed more than 4 billion VND, donated over 42,000 square meters of land, provided more than 3,500 workdays, and supplied materials for road construction and public infrastructure projects. As a result, 100% of the commune’s main roads have been reinforced, meeting the required width and surface standards.

The electrical system in the commune meets industry technical standards, ensuring a stable and safe electricity supply for 100% of households. Additionally, Nam Lanh Commune has been actively promoting vocational training and job creation, assigning village officials to directly guide and encourage impoverished households to engage in labor and production to increase their income.

At the same time, the commune has mobilized investment resources to support low-income families in repairing and building new homes, stabilizing their lives, and advancing their economic development. In 2024, with contributions from the state and charitable organizations, Nam Lanh successfully eliminated makeshift housing for five impoverished households, provided employment for 85 people, and facilitated the transition of 15 workers from agricultural to non-agricultural sectors.

As a result, the commune reduced the number of impoverished households by 21, lowering the poverty rate to 5.88% and the near-poverty rate to 0.63%, while the average per capita income reached 45.9 million VND per year. Ban Thua Tien, a resident of Giang Cai Village and one of the five disadvantaged households receiving housing support, expressed his gratitude: "Thanks to the local government and charitable organizations, my family now has a sturdy and spacious home. From now on, we will focus on working and striving for economic stability to live up to the generosity and expectations of everyone."

It is evident that Nam Lanh’s diverse and impactful initiatives continue to make a meaningful difference, improving the quality of life for residents and fostering local socio-economic development.
