Symposium marks 70 years since Nghia Lo Victory

The Union of Science and Technology Associations of Yen Bai province and the provincial Association of Historical Science have held a symposium in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Nghia Lo Victory that completely liberated the province in October 1952.

At the event in Nghia Lo town, officials, military officers, and historians delivered speeches on the historical context; the correlation between the forces of Vietnam and the enemy in the Tay Bac (Northwest) Campaign; the viewpoint and resolve of the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, the administration and people of ethnic groups in Yen Bai; the sacrifice by and hardships facing soldiers and compatriots nationwide, including of Yen Bai, in the Northwest Campaign; the developments and results of the Nghia Lo Victory that completely liberated the province; and the significance of the Northwest Campaign and the Nghia Lo Victory to the resistance war against French colonialists, with the peak being the globe-shaking victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954.

Culture officials and scientists also raised opinions and proposals about the study, collection, preservation, and capitalisation of historical and socio-economic values of the Northwest Campaign and the Nghia Lo Victory.

Before the seminar, delegates offer incense to heroes and martyrs at the Cang - Don historical relic site in Nghia Lo town.

Nghia Lo, a land that is famous for the diverse cultural heritage of Northwest Vietnam’s ethnic communities, is home to several nationally recognized intangible cultural heritages. These cultural assets have positioned Muong Lo – Nghia Lo as a sought-after destination for both domestic and international travelers, contributing to its growing prominence on the tourism map of Yen Bai province.
