On May 10, 2024, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 396 approving the master plan for the development of the Thac Ba National Tourism Area in Yen Bai Province through 2040. This initiative aims to position Thac Ba as a key driver of Vietnam's tourism sector. Recognizing the growing demand for nature-based and cultural tourism, Yen Binh District is actively adapting to modern tourism trends.
According to Vu Tuan Manh, Head of the Yen Binh District Department of Culture and Information, the district is investing in the construction of the Tay Ethnic Cultural Conservation Center in Xuan Lai Commune. Additionally, policies have been introduced to support artisans in preserving and passing down cultural heritage within the community. The district is also focusing on developing cultural industries and unique tourism products to enhance its appeal as a travel destination.
In alignment with the district's tourism development strategy, travel agencies have introduced various experiential and cultural tourism packages, offering visitors unique and engaging discoveries. Among the standout sustainable tourism initiatives is Omtara Tourism Area, located in Hong Bang Village, Dai Dong Commune.
Hoang Van Hien, the site manager, shared: "We develop tourism by leveraging the region's natural beauty while prioritizing landscape preservation to provide visitors with the most authentic experience. Many tourists are captivated by the lush greenery and tranquil atmosphere of Thac Ba Lake and often return for deeper cultural and lifestyle experiences."
He further noted that the site frequently welcomes international travelers and tour groups from major cities—those who seek serenity and a closer connection to nature. Visitors can engage in hands-on activities such as fishing and vegetable farming, enriching their understanding of the local way of life.
Vietnam’s Tourism Development Strategy to 2030 prioritizes sustainable tourism as a key pillar for environmental protection and maximizing community benefits. In line with this vision, Yen Binh District has actively promoted unique tourism products that highlight ethnic cultures and the Thac Ba Lake ecosystem. This approach not only enriches local tourism offerings but also aids in biodiversity conservation and ecological preservation.
According to Vu Tuan Manh, Head of the District’s Department of Culture and Information, Yen Binh offers captivating experiences year-round. Visitors can engage in traditional fishing on Thac Ba Lake, join Dao and Cao Lan community bonfires, or immerse themselves in the melodies of the Tinh lute and Khap Coi singing of the Tay people. For those seeking tranquility, a stroll through ancient pomelo orchards or savoring the refreshing taste of buoi tien vua (imperial pomelo) provides a perfect retreat from urban hustle.
The harmonious blend of pristine nature, rich cultural heritage, and the warmth of the local people has made Yen Binh a truly enchanting destination. Thanks to its focus on tourism development, particularly eco-tourism, the district achieved remarkable results in 2024, attracting 356,240 visitors and generating over VND 312 billion in revenue.
To further develop local tourism, Yen Binh District is prioritizing the expansion of tourism services and infrastructure. The district aims to attract investment in essential facilities such as restaurants, accommodations, and community-based tourism models. Additionally, Yen Binh is focused on bringing in experienced investors to create unique and sustainable tourism experiences, including eco-tourism.
With these strategic efforts, Yen Binh targets welcoming over 380,000 visitors in 2025, with projected tourism revenue reaching VND 320 billion.
