Yen Bai builds 2nd hydropower plant on Chay river

YBO - The Thac Ba 2 hydropower plant with a capacity of 18.9MW will be constructed on Chay river in Yen Binh district of Yen Bai province on the occasion of the 75th founding anniversary of the Party organisation of the district this June.

The location of the plant will be about 7km of the lower reaches of the current Thac Ba plant in Han Da commune of Yen Binh. It is projected to have the highest water level rise of 23m, built at an investment of nearly 576 billion VND (25.15 million USD, estimated in 2020). The plant will span an area of about 153ha across Thac Ba town and the communes of Han Da, Yen Binh and Vinh Kien of Yen Binh district and My Bang commune of Tuyen Quang province’s Yen Son district.

When operational, the new plant is expected to generate about 51.6 million KWh annually. In addition to supporting firms’ business operation, the project is hoped to create more stable jobs and raise income for workers as well as contribute more to the State budget.

Luc Yen District has recently have two additional communes, Dong Quan and Khanh Hoa, officially recognized by the Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee as meeting the criteria for new rural standards (Nông Thôn Mới - NTM) in 2024.
