685 children aged under 16 receive free heart disease screening tests

YBO - The cardiovascular centre of the Hanoi-based Hospital E has coordinated with the Yen Bai provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to provide free heart disease screening tests and advice for children in Yen Binh, Tran Yen, and Van Yen districts and Yen Bai city.

Through check-ups for nearly 300 children aged under 16, doctors found such congenital heart defects as ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect, and heart rhythm disorders.

The heart disease screening programme, one of many activities of the Children Protection Fund, aims to early detect congenital heart diseases in children so as to make timely interventions and surgeries. It has helped many sick children healthy again, giving them new chances to live, study, and grow up.

Earlier, this programme had benefited 382 children in Luc Yen district.

So far, 685 children aged under 16 in Yen Bai province have received free heart disease screening. Screening tests have discovered suspected symptoms in 14 children who will need surgeries.
