Yen Bai province launches tree planting festival in spring of 2022

YBO - On the first working day of the Lunar New Year (February 7), localities, agencies, and units across Yen Bai province have launched the tree planting festival, an annual activity held every spring.

+ Yen Bai city organised a ceremony launching the tree planting festival on the road linking National Highway 37 with Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway.

The event saw the participation of Do Duc Duy - member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, and head of the National Assembly deputies’ delegation; Tran Huy Tuan - Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; other members of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board, standing members of the provincial People’s Council, officials of the provincial People’s Committee; representatives from local departments and sectors; along with local residents.

In 2022, Yen Bai city is set to cultivate 10,000 trees in urban areas, 210,000 scattered trees, and 300ha of concentrated forest.

+ On the first day of the festival, more than 100ha of forest was planted in Yen Binh district. For the 2021 - 2025 period, the district looks to grow over 3,200ha of forest each year. Notably, it is expected to cultivate 3,500ha of forest right in the spring crop of 2022.

+ In 2022, Tram Tau district will strive to plant 320ha of forest, including 70ha of commercial forest and 250ha of protection forest. Since late 2021, its protection forest management board has coordinated with relevant agencies and communes to review the forestry land eligible for afforestation, make afforestation plans, and germinate over 400,000 seedlings, mostly pine, "po mu” (Fokienia), "to hap” (Liquidambar orientalis Mill), "re huong” (Cinnamomum parthenoxylon), and "son tra” (Crataegus cuneara Sied.et Zucc).

+ In 2021, people in Tran Yen district planted more than 2,900ha of replaced forest. Nearly 4,000ha was applied to seek the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certificates. Meanwhile, the forest coverage reached 70 percent. Encouraging all local residents to join hands in tree planting, the district looks to cultivate 2,750ha of forest this year, including 125ha of the Bat Do bamboo to be planted in the first quarter.

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Tran Huy Tuan personally presented support and gifts to workers facing hardships across Yen Bai Province.

Luc Yen District presents the provincial decision recognizing Dong Quan Commune as meeting NTM standards for 2024.

Luc Yen District has recently have two additional communes, Dong Quan and Khanh Hoa, officially recognized by the Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee as meeting the criteria for new rural standards (Nông Thôn Mới - NTM) in 2024.

Hmong Tet Altar

According to tradition, the Hmong community’s traditional Tet typically takes place one month before the Lunar New Year. This period marks the end of the harvest season, allowing everyone to rest after a year of hard work. Nowadays, most Hmong people celebrate the Lunar New Year alongside the rest of the nation.
