Colonel Nguyen Trung Thai - Chairman of the Veterans’ Association of Yen Bai said the association’s local chapters have paid attention to educating members and spurring their fighting spirit in order to keep them stay alert on subversive plots and maintain national unity, political stability and social order.
In 2021, all the association’s chapters have organized workshops to popularize resolutions of all-level Party congresses, as well as directives, resolutions and action plans of the provincial Party Committee.
Setting good examples, they have strictly implemented measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19, proactively sent their members to participate in COVID-19 response communication teams and raised funds for COVID-19 relief efforts.
The chapters have been committed to local poverty reduction efforts as part of the movement calling on veterans to help each other escape from poverty with successful business and production.
The province now has 71 small and medium sized enterprises, 18 cooperatives, 26 cooperative groups, 83 plantations, and 1,963 services households owned by war veterans. Four district-level and one provincial-level clubs of veteran entrepreneur have been set up.
These businesses provide tens of thousands of jobs for local workers, with monthly wage ranging from 4.5 million – 9.5 million VND.
The veterans have also engaged in the new-style rural and civilized urban building campaigns, putting forward ideas and donating money, land and services for construction of rural infrastructure. They have contributed nearly 254,000 working days, over 950 million VND in cash and close to 156,000 sqm of land between 2014 and 2019. They have also helped upgrade and repair 536.4km of rural roads, 960km of inner-field canals, and 85 bridges and culverts, and construct 157 schools, medical stations and communal houses.
This year, they have supported concreting 15 roads at communes earning new-style rural status.

On January 16, the Yen Bai Provincial Labor Federation organized the 2025 "Tet Sum Vay" program under the theme “Tet Sum Vay – Spring of Gratitude to the Party,” aiming to encourage, support, and care for union members and workers in Luc Yen District.
In 2024, the total value of activities conducted by the Red Cross Society of Yen Bai Province exceeded 86 billion VND, benefiting 230,105 individuals.
Luc Yen District has recently have two additional communes, Dong Quan and Khanh Hoa, officially recognized by the Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee as meeting the criteria for new rural standards (Nông Thôn Mới - NTM) in 2024.
According to tradition, the Hmong community’s traditional Tet typically takes place one month before the Lunar New Year. This period marks the end of the harvest season, allowing everyone to rest after a year of hard work. Nowadays, most Hmong people celebrate the Lunar New Year alongside the rest of the nation.
