YBO - Ngo Hanh Phuc, Vice Chairman of the Yen Bai provincial People’s Committee and leaders of a number of provincial departments and sectors have attended the 20th National Conference on Local Diplomacy via videoconference.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 13 held the 20th National Conference on Local Diplomacy, with the aim of continuing to reform and increase the efficiency of foreign affairs and international integration of localities.

Speaking at the event, organised in both online and in-person forms, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said that since the 19th conference in 2018, the world and regional situation has seen many complex and profound changes.

Under the leadership of the Party, the drastic and effective direction of the Government, and the engagement of the whole political system, localities have made great efforts to overcome difficulties and challenges in COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control, maintain and boost socio-economic development and promote international integration.

Vietnam has received timely and effective international support in terms of vaccine, medical equipment and treatment drugs to enable the whole country and localities to safely and flexibly adapt to and effectively control the pandemic, and foster socio-economic recovery and development. In addition, the country’s relations with many partners, especially neighbouring countries, important partners and traditional friends, have been further expanded and deepened, he said.

The event was organised in both online and in-person forms.

According to the minister, cultural diplomacy, information for foreign service, overseas Vietnamese-related affairs, and citizen protection have been carried out effectively and synchronously. Localities have well performed the border and territory-related work, thus helping to build borderlines of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

Son asked participants to clarify the position, role and missions of local diplomacy in the new development stage, and mobilise external resources to serve socio-economic development, and raise the position and prestige of localities during the international integration process.

He affirmed that the diplomatic sector will continue actively grasping the demand and development situation of localities to help them implement their development strategies, planning schemes and plans effectively.

On the sidelines of the conference, a fair showcasing Vietnam’s products was held, attracting the participation of numerous local businesses.

* Since the previous conference, Yen Bai has actively and proactively improved its performance in foreign relations to serve its international integration and socio-economic development.

The province has continued to popularise the Party’s policies and State’s regulations on foreign relations among all local officials, public servants, armed forces and residents.

At the same time, Yen Bai has specified the Party and State’s guidelines and policies on foreign relations into short, middle and long term plans and programmes for implementation.

The year 2019 was considered a successful year in foreign relations of Yen Bai with many effective activities, including the setting up of cooperation relations with two foreign localities. The province received permit from the Prime Minister to join the Kunming-Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong-Quang Ninh economic corridor as a cooperation partner. Meanwhile, many external information and culture activities were also conducted efficiently.

Due to impacts of COVID-19, in the last two years, foreign relations activities in the province have been adjusted in a positive and flexible manner to suit the real situation.
