Notably, the union in collaboration with the People's Committee of Mu Cang Chai district and the "Khan am cho em” charity fund have organised the two-phase "Thanh am xanh” (green harmony) project, growing bamboo trees in Phinh Ho hamlet in the district’s De Xu Phinh commune.

The first phase of the project for 2021-2022 will plant 8,800 trees on 8.16ha of forest throughout 2021, and 16.8ha in the following years. In 2022, cultural and goods display spaces and language classes to preserve the local cultural identity and develop ecotourism will be set up.

The second phase for 2023 – 2030 will help registered local residents plant the trees on 100ha of land. The project will build a network that creates stable-income livelihoods from making bamboo products in a bid to reduce plastic waste and replace wood materials.

In addition to the project, the union has proposed to raise its annual target for forestation to 100,000 trees a year from the current 55,000.

In the eastern districts of the province, young people will participate in the planting of trees for paper making, cinnamon trees, bamboo, and fruit trees. The Muong Lo, Nghia Lo, and Tram Tau regions will focus on green projects serving tourism development.

Since the beginning of the year, the youth union has planted over 99,300 trees, especially on the occasion of the launch of the New Year tree planting festival (35,000 trees), and the youth month (57,660 trees). Also in 2021, all local districts, towns and cities will participate in four green Sundays with tree planting activities.
