Despite complexities of the pandemic, shops and grocery stores in Yen Bai city have seen an abundant amount of products, with stable prices.

Each locality now has 5-10 food agents, which has about 20 tonnes of rice in stock. In Yen Bai city alone, the Yen Bai Foodstuff JSC keeps 300 tonnes of the grain in its inventory.

Heads of rice agents said they always have dozens of tonnes of rice in stock while suppliers ensure prompt distribution if needed.

Consumers can also be assured without rushing to stockpile other essential foodstuff and goods.

The Department of Industry and Trade has taken the initiative in the fight against COVID-19 by joining hands with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, districts, townships and cities of Yen Bai province to examine suppliers and call for support of businesses, distributors and agents.

Regarding pork, poultry and aquatic products, along with local supply sources, when demand soars abruptly, there will be an additional 700 tonnes from other provinces, cities and imported products sold at trade centres and supermarkets.

About 2,000 tonnes of consumer goods, including sugar, milk, fish sauce, condiments, instant noodles, and cooking oil, are available in stores in the province.

Major distributors in Yen Bai have always worked to regulate the market and meet local consumers’ need in case of new developments of the pandemic.

The Department of Industry and Trade has also worked with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to keep an eye on production and call on locals and agricultural facilities to apply preventive measures while maintaining production in a bid to guarantee sufficient food supply in the locality.

In addition to the plan to ensure sufficient necessary goods, the Department of Industry and Trade proposed that local authorities allocate funding from the fund for natural disaster preparedness and disease prevention to some leading firms of the province, to help them stockpile essential goods in case of the resurgence of new outbreaks.
