YBO - The People’s Committee of Yen Bai province has issued a plan for foot-mouth disease (FMD) prevention for cattle in the 2021-2025 period.

The plan is to implement the national programme on FMD prevention in the next five years.

Under the plan, the locality will focus on vaccinating cattle, enhancing disease surveillance, controlling transportation, slaughter and veterinary hygiene, promptly stamping out epidemic outbreaks and promoting communication activities towards eliminating the disease, protecting the health of the local cattle herd and people, and ensuring the ecological environment.

In case there is any outbreak, the locality is determined to prevent it from spreading, while striving to stop the disease from entering the province from outside.

It has set targets of vaccinating 100 percent of the herd, and building a number of disease surveillance establishments.

The numbers of foot-and-mouth outbreaks and infected cattle are expected to decrease by 10- 20 percent compared to the average in the 2016-2020 period.

It aims to build at least 25 safe breeding establishments, 30 FMD surveillance facilities in districts, towns and Yen Bai city.
