Yen Bai, Laos’s Xayabury province celebrate 10th anniversary of friendly cooperation

YBO - Tran Huy Tuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Yen Bai province, attended a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the friendly cooperation between Yen Bai and Xayabury province of Laos, as part of his working trip to the neighbouring country on October 27.

The ceremony saw the attendance of Phongsavan Sitthavong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Governor of Xayabury province; and Kieu Thi Hang Phuc, Vietnam’s Consul General in Northern Laos, among others.

In his remarks, Phongsavan Sitthavong stressed that the meeting offers an opportunity to review the special solidarity and whole-hearted mutual support between the two Parties, States, and localities in particular.

The cooperation has brought about good results in such spheres as delegation exchange, education-training, health care, agriculture, military and infrastructure construction, the official said.

Xayabury’s officials and students who underwent training courses in Yen Bai have actively contributed to local socio-economic development after returning home, he noted.

For his part, Tuan thanked Party leaders, authorities and people of the Lao province for their efforts in building and promoting the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two localities in the past decade.

Over the past years, Yen Bai and Xayabury have diversified their cooperation activities across spheres. They have worked hard to effectively implement the reached cooperation agreement, while expanding cooperation to the areas of  shared concern.

Yen Bai has support Xayabury in the building of hospitals and schools and information-technology development with 14.5 billion VND (583,970 USD). The two localities have also assisted each other in personnel training and cooperated in health care, agriculture and industry and trade.

Earlier, the Vietnamese delegation paid tribute to late President Kaysone Phomvihane and held talks with representatives from Xayabury, during which they reviewed cooperation between the two provinces in 2012-2022 and sketched out a cooperation plan for the time ahead.

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Tran Huy Tuan personally presented support and gifts to workers facing hardships across Yen Bai Province.

Luc Yen District has recently have two additional communes, Dong Quan and Khanh Hoa, officially recognized by the Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee as meeting the criteria for new rural standards (Nông Thôn Mới - NTM) in 2024.
