YBO - Recognizing spiritual tourism and ecological tourism as two key potentials and strategic directions for tourism development, Van Yen District has implemented a range of practical and effective measures in recent years. These efforts have helped preserve cultural and historical values, leverage the district's majestic natural beauty, create unique tourism products, and open pathways for sustainable economic growth.

Each year, the New Rice Festival at Dong Cuong Temple is held with numerous cultural activities, drawing large crowds of visitors.
Each year, the New Rice Festival at Dong Cuong Temple is held with numerous cultural activities, drawing large crowds of visitors.

Visiting Van Yen means stepping into a land of legendary tales, where every road and river is imbued with profound cultural and spiritual significance. Among the highlights are Dong Cuong Temple and Nhuoc Son Temple, two prominent spiritual sites that preserve unique historical values. Each story and legend associated with these temples reflects the vibrancy of local culture.

The district has utilized its natural resources to develop seven eco-tourism and community tourism models and one high-end resort destination for conferences and seminars. Notably, the Tat Village community tourism site in Na Hau Commune has achieved 4-star OCOP status, while the Minh Khai Hamlet eco-tourism and community site in Quang Minh Commune has been recognized with 3-star OCOP status.

Turning potential into advantage, Van Yen annually organizes traditional festivals at its two spiritual sites, integrating pilgrimage with tourism to provide momentum for the growth of spiritual tourism. The district also focuses on innovating the content and format of festivals and cultural activities, creating a lively and vibrant atmosphere. Regular inspections are conducted to ensure adherence to commercial civility, food safety, and environmental hygiene standards at heritage sites, enhancing the appeal and convenience for visitors.

Comrade Ha Trung Kien, Head of the Culture and Information Department of Van Yen District, stated: "Recognizing the importance of cultural stories in attracting visitors, our department has proactively collaborated with local communes and towns to collect existing legends, myths, and historical accounts from ancient documents, as well as stories related to recognized heritage sites and tourism areas. These have been rewritten in a concise and engaging manner to meet the needs of tourists, and we have compiled and submitted to the province the publication 'Yen Bai – The Heritage Road' and 'Travel Programs Handbook of Yen Bai Province'"

Alongside spiritual tourism, ecological tourism in Van Yen offers an exciting journey of discovery for visitors from near and far. With its rich and diverse ecosystem, including the pristine Na Hau Forest, Suoi Tien Waterfall, Khe Rong Waterfall, and Khe Cam Gorge, as well as the unique cultural colors of local ethnic minorities, Van Yen presents a multifaceted, harmonious, and vibrant portrait of nature and culture. Annually, the Na Hau Forest Tet Festival attracts a large number of visitors, with traditional games and rural market activities showcasing the community's cultural richness. In 2024, the festival welcomed over 8,000 guests.

Additionally, the district has creatively launched the "Plant Trees for Tourism" initiative, planting over 1,200 trees in Phong Du Thuong and Na Hau communes. This is a positive step towards improving the ecological environment, protecting the landscape, and raising community awareness of nature conservation. Notably, the district has also created unique tourism activities to further attract visitors.

The tourism development journey of Van Yen is a story of harnessing potential and a lesson in balancing preservation with innovation. Each festival, each eco-tourism and community tourism model serves as evidence of the district's long-term vision and commitment to preserving its natural and cultural heritage. With the successful implementation of these strategic measures, Van Yen is poised to become a vibrant, sustainable destination that attracts a wide range of visitors.
