In March 2021, the Office of the provincial People’s Committee and the National Institute of Software and Digital Content Industry signed a memorandum of understanding on support for digital transformation and for the implementation of a smart city project in Yen Bai.

Resolution No 51-NQ/TU, issued by the provincial Party Committee, targets that the digital economy will make up 20 percent of the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) of Yen Bai by 2025 and 30 percent by 2030.

To that end, local authorities consider giving digital transformation assistance to enterprises as the prerequisite.

There are more than 2,500 businesses in the province at present, including 1,574 limited liability companies, 569 joint stock companies, 350 private firms, 31 FDI businesses, and 13 others wholly funded by foreign investors.

The provincial Department of Planning and Investment has assisted them to take part in a programme for 2021 - 2025 implemented by the Ministry and Planning and Investment to assist enterprises in digital transformation. In this programme, businesses can learn and find out the most suitable digital transformation solutions for them.

Local authorities have also been carrying out activities to help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), companies operating in traditional industries, and manufacturing firms create products and supply services on digital platforms.

Training courses have been organised to help SMEs make self-assessment of their business methods, value chains, and connectivity with customers so as to adopt new production and business methods.

In addition, relevant agencies in Yen Bai have moved to develop e-commerce, increase trade promotion programmes, build e-commerce platforms, and create conditions for businesses to access relevant information, mechanisms, and policies of the State.

Communications about international economic integration have also been reformed as seen in industrial and trade promotion events held via videoconference with the participation of Vietnam’s trade counsellors in other countries.

Yen Bai has also been working to facilitate startups and innovation. It has organised programmes to disseminate knowledge about digital technology and digital economic models and to share experience of the firms that have gained success thanks to digital technology application.
