YBO - Yen Bai city has hosted a ceremony to honour outstanding contributors to charity activities for the poor and present certificates of merit to 30 groups with excellent achievements in poverty reduction.

With support from local authorities as well as business communities and benefactors in and outside of the province, the city’s social welfare programme has received over 7.2 billion VND (293,548 USD) in the past nearly three years. As a result,173 charity houses were built and repaired; 68 needy families aided with capital and means of production; over 1,700 poor households helped with medical examination and treatment; and nearly 1,200 pupils and students assisted.

These outcomes have made an important contribution to the municipal stability and growth, with the rate of poor households being brought down sharply, from 5.02% in 2015 to 0.58% in 2021.

At the ceremony, aid worth 1.9 billion VND was presented to local families with housing difficulties and those unable to escape poverty themselves.
