Yen Bai holds workshop on building plan on implementation of National Strategy on Nutrition

YBO - The Steering Committee for the Care and Protection of People's Health of Yen Bai province has recently organised a workshop to build an implementation plan for Plan No. 62/KH-UBND of the provincial People's Committee on the implementation of the National Strategy on Nutrition in the province in the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2045.

Currently, Yen Bai has basically solved the deficiency of Vitamin A and iodine and significantly reduced nutritional anemia. The rate of children aged 6 - 60 months who receive Vitamin A always remains above 99.5%, over 95% of households enjoy stable supply of iodised salt, and the rate of children aged between 8 - 10 with goiter is kept under 5%.

The rate of malnourish children under 5 years old decreased from 21.2% in 2011 to 15.6% in 2021, while that of stunted children fell from 32.5% in 2011 to 24% in 2021. These figures dropped to 14.73% and 23.03% in the first half of this year, respectively.

At the workshop, participants discussed difficulties, challenges and solutions in groups to well implement the Plan No.62, focusing on policies, human resources, finance, and techniques to achieve the objectives of improving knowledge and practice of reasonable nutrition to improve nutritional status suitable to each subject, ethnic group and locality.

Five specific objectives are to implement a diverse and reasonable diet for all; to improve the nutritional status of mothers and children; to improve micronutrient deficiency in children and women of childbearing age; to continue to control the obesity rate in children under 5 years old; and to improve the capacity and efficiency of the operation of nutrition networks at the community and health facilities.
