First day of school re-opening: Yen Bai schools take initiative in COVID-19 prevention

YBO - On March 2 morning, students at 39 senior high schools, Continuing Education Centres and colleges in Yen Bai returned to school after a long-lasting closure prompted by the threat of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Most students in local schools wash hands before entering the classrooms.

To ensure the health of students, educational institutions have made the best preparations to welcome their students. Unlike the regular Monday mornings before, Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted in Yen Bai city did not organize a flag-hoisting ceremony at the school yard. Instead, the ceremony was held right in classes.

Teacher Nguyen Trung Nghia, Head of the 12th-grade Math – Informatics class, said: "Besides informing students about the new week's work, we homeroom teachers also guide students how to prevent the disease, wash hands with alcohol-based hand sanitizers”.

Previously, through information on mass media and instructions sent by teachers via emails, students took proactive measures to ensure health safety when going to school amid the disease outbreak.

Cao Thuy Linh, a student in the 12th-grade Math – Informatics class, shared: "Thanks to the teachers, we are equipped with knowledge about disease prevention. We follow these instructions and feel secured”.

According to teacher Nguyen Quang Hop, Principal of Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted, the school has assigned teachers to repeatedly clean tables and chairs, spray disinfectants, and send emails to students to guide them in how to prevent the disease. The school has also put antibacterial soaps in toilets.

On March 2, in Yen Bai Pedagogy College, only four out of 409 students were absent from class for family reasons. Along with cleaning and spraying disinfectants in classrooms and the dormitory, the school asked students to wash their hands and measured their body temperature.

Student Pham Thi Tu Uyen of the 18B pre-school education class said: "we feel comfortable and secured because the school has cleaned up the entire dormitory and classrooms".

Teacher Vu Thi Mai Oanh, Vice Principal of Yen Bai Pedagogy College, stated: "The school has assigned groups of teachers to go to each classroom to measure body temperature, distribute leaflets and face masks for students”.

With the careful preparations and the good implementation of preventive measures, students at high schools, continuing education centres and colleges in the locality will feel secured in learning amid the outbreak of the COVID-19 in many countries.
