The two-component sub-project, carried out from 2019 to June 30, 2025, is built at the total cost of 63.27 million USD, 39.46 million USD of which is funded by the WB.

The first component focuses on technical infrastructure development in urban areas to mitigate inundation and improve urban transport and connectivity, including the renovation of Nam Cuong eco lakes and construction of embankments along Cau Dai and HaoGia streams, a road linking Nguyen Tat Thanh with Au Co streets and resettlement areas with total area of 3.1 hectares.

Meanwhile, the second component comprises non-structural measures, and technical and investment support, including building strategic planning for urban area development and a strategy to branch out public transport. All of the seven construction bidding packages in this component are underway, using WB loans.

Steven Louis Rubinyi, a risk management expert from the WB, spoke highly of the efforts made by competent authorities in the site clearance work as well as the removal of bottlenecks in complicated bidding packages.

Sufficient corresponding capital has been arranged by the province, helping ensure the sub-project’s progress, he said.

The WB working delegation hoped that the provincial People’s Committee will pay more attention to accelerate the sub-project’s construction and capital disbursement and giving timely and suitable support to displaced households.

Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phuoc said that the province will mobilise all resources to complete the site clearance work, urge contractors to accelerate construction and strive to finish the construction packages before December 2024 and finalise the sub-project in 2025 as committed./.
