Leader of Yen Bai province pays working visit to Laos

YBO - A high-ranking delegation of Yen Bai province led by Tran Huy Tuan, Vice Secretary of the provincial Communist Party of Vietnam Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, paid a working visit to Laos on October 24.

The trip took place amid a number of activities being held to mark the Vietnam - Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022, the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962 - 2022), and 45 years since the signing of the two countries’ Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (July 18, 1977 - 2022).

At the talks with the Yen Bai delegation, Khamphan Sithidampha, Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Committee and Governor of Vientiane province, emphasised the long-standing relations between Vietnam and Laos, as well as between Vientiane and Yen Bai. He described the Yen Bai delegation’s working visit as a contribution to the special solidarity and cooperation between the two Parties and States, including between Vientiane and Yen Bai.

The host noted that during 14 years of cooperation, leaders of the two provinces have made mutual visits, shared experience, and assisted each other. Vientiane has received considerable support from Yen Bai for many projects. Their mutual assistance in multiple fields has helped increasingly strengthen the special ties between the Parties and States of Laos and Vietnam.

In his remarks, Tran Huy Tuan congratulated Vientiane on its recent all-round achievements and considered these as an important prerequisite for it to continue developing more strongly in 2023 and the following years.

Informing his host about Yen Bai’s achievements in the first nine months of 2022 and its goals and orientations for 2025, he affirmed that the solidarity and friendship between the two provinces have been flourishing in an intensive, practical, and effective manner. They have also carried out many cooperation activities in such fields as politics, economy, education - training, and heath care.

According to a report delivered at the talks, Yen Bai and Vientiane have implemented cooperation activities since 2008 and reaped encouraging outcomes. They have organised 61 mutual visits regarding many areas, including health care, culture, education, information technology, and natural resources - environment. Yen Bai has also provided assistance worth over 189 billion VND (7.6 million USD) for Vientiane to build infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, and offices.

For 2023, the two provinces agreed to send three delegations to visit each other and share experience. Yen Bai will continue helping Vientiane to build headquarters of agencies and receive 10 more students from the Lao province to learn the Vietnamese language and then specialities at local schools.

On this occasion, the Yen Bai delegation made a courtesy call on the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos, visited the Lao - Viet Bank in Vientiane and the boarding school for ethnic minority students in the province’s Vangvieng district, and paid tribute to the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts falling down during the resistance war against France in Laos at a memorial site in Vientiane.
