PM launches programme to provide computers for disadvantaged students

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 12 launched a programme to provide computers and telecommunications services for students and pupils with difficult circumstances, especially those living in areas hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 12 launched a programme to provide computers and telecommunications services for students and pupils with difficult circumstances, especially those living in areas hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The launching ceremony was held virtually and connected to 63 provinces and cities nationwide.

The program aims to mobilise 1 million computers, and ensure mobile service coverage at all 283 points without mobile Internet connection in localities that are applying social distancing regulations, and 1,910 other places nationwide.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, as of September 12, online teaching and learning has been deployed in 26 out of 63 provinces and cities across the country. The total number of students joining online studying is estimated at 7.35 million, of them 1.5 million do not have computers.

PM Chinh said the Government is very interested in the safe opening of schools.

However, in the context of complicated developments of the pandemic, many students do not have computers for their online study, and in many places, the internet network is unstable or there is no connection, he said.

According to the PM, online learning and teaching is a new education method, which require educators, psychologists and teachers to suitably adjust teaching methods and contents.

He requested the Ministry of Health to coordinate with the Ministry of Education and Training, relevant sectors and localities to accelerate COVID-19 vaccination for children.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information and Communications was asked to work with the Ministry of Education and Training, relevant ministries and sectors, and localities to ensure internet connection for online teaching and learning.
