Japan International Cooperation Agency Office Works with the Department of Health

YBO - On the afternoon of October 21, a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Office, led by Chief Advisor Tanaka Taketo, met with the Department of Health and Yen Bai General Hospital to discuss the implementation of activities for the "Strengthening the Capacity Development System for Healthcare Staff through Telemedicine" project.

The project officially commenced in July 2024 and will last for five years, focusing on enhancing telemedicine efforts. Its goal is to improve the quality of primary and secondary healthcare in disadvantaged areas, thereby addressing health disparities between urban and rural regions.

Initially, the project is considering pilot implementation in two districts: Luc Yen and Yen Binh. It comprises four expected outcomes, two of which pertain to the implementation of the pilot project supporting remote healthcare among medical experts in Yen Bai province.

During the meeting, Yen Bai General Hospital provided an overview of the healthcare system in the area, introduced activities that have been implemented, highlighted achievements, and discussed the advantages and challenges faced in conducting remote consultations and treatments. Both parties exchanged views and discussed issues related to telemedicine, including selecting a list of diseases and healthcare services to be included in the pilot program of the telemedicine project.

As part of the working agenda, the delegation visited the Thac Ba General Clinic in Yen Binh District, the Khanh Hoa General Clinic in Luc Yen District, and the health centers in Luc Yen and Yen Binh Districts.

Project staff from the “Improvement of Reproductive and Sexual Health for Adolescents” initiative conduct communication activities on adolescent reproductive health care in Mu Cang Chai district.

Recently, Yen Bai province has faced concerning reproductive health statistics, with the pregnancy rate among women aged 15-19 reaching 15.5% in Mu Cang Chai district and 9.6% in Van Chan district. Home births remain prevalent, with 63.1% occurring in Mu Cang Chai and 13.5% in Van Chan.
