Yen Bai takes action to ensure safety of women and children

YBO - The Women’s Union of the northern province of Yen Bai has been taking activities to engage agencies, sectors, individuals, organisations and the whole society in ensuring the safety of women and girls.

The prevention and control of domestic violence and human trafficking as well as support for female victims are included in the resolution of the province’s 26th women's congress for the 2021-2026 term.

Accordingly, by the end of 2026, women’s unions at all levels in the province are expected to support 80% of female victims and girls who are victims of domestic violence and human trafficking, once returning home, could access at least one supporting service.

According to the provincial women’s union, to create a safer environment for women and girls to develop, activities have been taken.
For example, in early November this year, the women’s union organised an event in which people in Son Luong commune, Van Chan district, were introduced to the law on domestic violence prevention and control, child marriage, consanguineous marriage and illegal migration and immigration.

On the occasion of Vietnam Family Day (June, 28), the union organised a workshop "Domestic violence prevention helps to create a safe home and happy society”. During the workshop, women shared experience in fighting against domestic violence and talked about difficulties and solutions.

Last July, the union also organised a communication day on human trafficking in the two mountainous districts of Mu Cang Chai and Tram Tau, attracting nearly 1,100 participants.

The provincial women’s union organised two policy dialogues in Luc Yen district and Yen Bai city, helping improve public awareness and understanding about protecting women and girls from domestic violence and human trafficking.

Women’s unions at grassroots levels were asked to implement community-based self-help groups in which union members share experience to ensure public order and security as well as a safe and happy family.

So far this year, about 230 groups have been established, bringing the total number of such groups in the province to nearly 600. In addition, nearly 190 quick response teams have been set up across the province to timely support women and children.

According to the provincial women's union, local authorities and women’s unions at all levels have detected violations and supported 17 victims of domestic violence and 16 victims of human trafficking from the beginning of this year. They were helped to access social services and given financial support of 165 million VND (nearly 7,000 USD) for starting their livelihood.

According to the province’s police, from 2018 to October 2022, the province’s police handled 108 domestic violence cases with 110 involved people; 8 human trafficking cases with 12 people committed crime of human trafficking. All 12 trafficked victims in those cases are women and children.

Recently in Hanoi, Vinacore International Consulting, Services and Trading joint Stock Company, in collaboration with the Employment Service Center under the Department of Home Affairs of Yen Bai Province, organized a departure ceremony for 14 workers from Yen Bai to work in Japan under a placement program managed by Yamazaki Vietnam Co., Ltd.

In 2025, Yen Bai Province is prioritizing the implementation of labour export consulting activities, vocational training in combination with foreign language education, and support programs aimed at facilitating overseas employment for local workers.
