Yen Bai: hallmarks of roads for children to go to school

  •  Friday, December 2, 2022

YBO - In Yen Bai, there are many roads, not wide and unpaved as they are but come into being as a result of the heart, sweat and efforts of youth and donators to children and people in mountainous areas.

Entering the 14th term of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (2017-2022), in 2017 and 2018, terrible storms and floods hit Yen Bai province, especially in the western part, causing great damage to houses, roads and many public works.

With the volunteer spirit, the Youth Unions at all levels and their members promptly joined hands with the Party committees and local authorities to address the consequences of natural disasters, repair and rebuild houses, electricity works, roads, schools, and stations. During this process, many roads in mountainous communes and hamlets, already dangerous with steep slopes and scattered rocks, became increasingly slippery, causing difficulties for children and locals.

To help students travel smoothly, Yen Bai province’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has implemented the "road to school” programe, with an aim to concretise inter-hamlet roads in mountainous communes. Road construction in Ta Dong and Na Hang hamlets in Che Tao commune of Mu Cang Chai district is probably the biggest challenge for the Youth Union, youths, and the local Party Committee and authorities.

Youths of Che Tao commune volunteered to transport cement from the commune centre to the hamlet. The long distance sends the value of each cement bag to the hamlet 5-7 times more expensive. Young people also went down to the stream to mine sand and gravel to build the road.

The "road to school” is concretised from the "Let your dreams fly” movement. To date, the provincial Youth Union has completed more than 117 km, with 111 concrete roads in over 100 hamlets in remote areas with a total value of more than 50 billion VND (2 million USD); and rebuilt 14 rural bridges worth over 7 billion VND.

More and more roads have been built in the remote hamlets, showing the strength, will and determination of local youths. The programme was recognised as one of the nine typical national youth projects in 2020 by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee.
