Action month for gender equality, gender-based violence prevention, response launched

YBO - The People's Committee of Yen Bai province recently held a ceremony in Van Chan district to launch the action month for gender equality and gender-based violence prevention and response in 2022 with the theme "Ensuring social security, empowering and creating opportunities for women and girls to achieve gender equality and eliminate violence against women and girls".

More than 10 years implementing the Law on Gender Equality, the work of gender equality and for the advancement of women in the province has been concretised into action programmes, resolutions, schemes, policies, and plans. The province fulfilled the objectives of the National Strategy on Gender Equality for the 2011-2020 period.

The increased participation of women in leadership and management positions has helped gradually reduce the gender gap in politics. To date, the province has 68 female out of the 422 leaders under the monitoring of the provincial Party Committee’s standing board, accounting for 16.11%; the percentage of women participating in party committees at all levels is 22.6%; that of women working as People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2021-2025 term is 34.4%; the women participating in People's Committees at all levels account for 7.03%; 18 out of the 37 agencies and units are led by women; and the women-owned businesses and cooperatives accounts for 22.5%.

The province has also established places providing consultation and support for domestic violence victims, models of shelters, clubs on domestic violence prevention and control, and safe and happy schools models.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People's Committee Vu Thi Hien Hanh proposed Party committees and authorities at all levels, sectors, unions, localities, agencies, organisations, families and the whole society work together to achieve the goals on gender equality, ensure social welfare, empower and create opportunities for women and girls, end violence against women and children, and move towards building a safe and fair community.

She also stressed the need to promptly support abused women and children, carry out services and intervention models to prevent and reduce violence and abuse against women and children, and help them improve knowledge, and self-protection and self-prevention skills.

Nghia Lo Ethnic Minority Boarding Vocational School is among the most reputable vocational training institutions in the province.

In 2025, the province has set a target to create employment for 20,000 workers, with a trained labor rate reaching 70.2%. Of this, the proportion of workers receiving training for three months or longer and obtaining certificates or diplomas is expected to reach 40.1%. Yen Bai intensifies career counseling, guidance, and activities to provide information and raise awareness about labor export initiatives.

In 2024, Yen Bai province sent 114 workers to South Korea under the Work Permit Program for foreign workers and the pilot program for sending seasonal workers to South Korea, which is part of the cooperative efforts between localities of the two countries.

Yen Bai City aims to complete 56 targets outlined in its Digital Transformation Plan for 2025. The city has committed to mobilizing all available resources and implementing synchronized solutions under the motto: “Innovation, Creativity, Determination, Discipline, Efficiency.”
