The students who bring joy to Yen Bai province

YBO - On the first days of the 2020 spring, Yen Bai received a good news which is 27 students of the province won prizes at the national excellent student competition for the 2019-2020 academic year, giving Yen Bai the fourth place among northern midland and mountainous provinces and the 20th position among localities nationwide.

Bui Thi Nhung – Class 12 majoring in History – Geography, Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted (first prize in geography)


Bui Thi Nhung became a member of the team competing at the national excellent student competition on geography for the first time when she was an 11th grader, and she obtained a consolation prize right that time.

Nhung loves geography because she is interested in the earth’s geology and atmosphere. Apart from lessons at school and of the team, she also often reads books written by Vietnam’s leading geographers like Nguyen Duc Vu, Le Thong and Le Huynh.

She said that taking part in some groups that compete in the national contest and share the same interest on the social network, she has accessed much information that cannot easily be found in any books.

Nhung dreams to become a diplomat in the future and plans to sit exams to enroll in courses of the Diplomatic Academy and the University of Languages and International Studies. She believes that knowledge about history and geography will be useful to her in her future careers.

Hoang Thi Trang – Class 12A5, Chu Van An High School, Van Yen district (third prize in history)


Despite good performance in all subjects, Hoang Thi Trang has a special love for history since she was a little girl. That interest has been nurtured by songs and films about the country’s revolution her parents showed her.

She has learned history via many sources such as Youtube, songs about the revolution, as well as history films and books.

Trang said she put the love for the Fatherland and history in her exam papers and imaged herself as a person of the past periods to infuse her answers with true feelings.

She hopes to become an entrepreneur in the future, which seems to not have any links with her favourite subject, but Trang holds that history is a "teacher” of life and many lessons in the past are valuable to the present.

Hieu said as a people of Vietnam and Yen Bai, he needs to have knowledge of his homeland’s history so as to nurture the love for the Fatherland.

He is interested in reading books, especially history stories and documents written by Vietnamese historians, basing on which he has his own evaluation of each historical issues and events.

Hieu wishes to become a police officer to help safeguard the country and build a good society for the sake of the people, which is also the spirit he learned from history.

Nghia Lo Ethnic Minority Boarding Vocational School is among the most reputable vocational training institutions in the province.

In 2025, the province has set a target to create employment for 20,000 workers, with a trained labor rate reaching 70.2%. Of this, the proportion of workers receiving training for three months or longer and obtaining certificates or diplomas is expected to reach 40.1%. Additionally, Yen Bai aims to recruit and train 18,000 new vocational trainees and transition 7,000 workers from agricultural to non-agricultural sectors.

In 2024, Yen Bai province sent 114 workers to South Korea under the Work Permit Program for foreign workers and the pilot program for sending seasonal workers to South Korea, which is part of the cooperative efforts between localities of the two countries.
