YBO - On Lunar New Year holiday, everyone looks forward to returning to their families for reunion after a year of hard work. For Yen Bai residents, their journey back home is so special because the province has welcomed them back from the COVID-19 hotspots.

The family of Ngo Quang Tien and Hoang Thi Thu Net always feel lucky to be able to return home to celebrate Tet in Co Van revolutionary homeland in Muong Lai commune, Luc Yen district.

Working a a garment company in Di An township, Binh Duong province for a year, they later suffered unemployment due to COVID-19 pandemic.

In the pandemic hotspot, they wanted to return home but met economic difficulties, together with tighter pandemic prevention and control measures in localities. At that time, the young wife was more than five months pregnant so tit was impossible to travel more than 2,000km by motorbike to the hometown.

Upon learning that Yen Bai advocated welcoming natives back from Ho Chi Minh and southern provinces, they immediately applied for and became two out of the 490 people who were allowed to return home in the first stage in October 2021.

During their quarantine at the provincial public security professional training centre, Net was thoroughly cared for. Finishing the period, they were touched when returning home and receiving sentiments from villagers.

Thanks to support of local authorities and family, Tien also landed a job near home so their lives have become stable. Net could not hide her emotion when receiving care from the community, friends and relatives.

"In coming days, I will give birth to a baby in a place where I was born and raised - it is really happy and lucky" Net said.

The family of Trieu Thi Hien and Phung Quoc Cuong in Lang Thip commune, Van Yen district, have not yet fulfilled their simple wish to return home. The couple work together as workers in Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh City, life has been difficult and influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic, so it is even more difficult. Just having a baby, they also wanted to return home to visit paternal and maternal grandparents. When the pandemic broke out, their wish seemed impossible to come true.

Coming to learn of Yen Bai’s policy of welcoming residents back from Ho Chi Minh City and other southern localities, Hien and her two children registered first while her husband stayed for work and returned later.

After more than three years away from the hometown, she was really surprised by the changes there and clearly felt sincere and warm sentiments from her family. "In the next few days, my husband will also fly back from Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate Tet with us. This Tet, my family will be very happy! I would like to thank everyone for bringing this happiness to my family," Hien said emotionally.

like the families of Hien and Net, nearly 900 Yen Bai residents from Ho Chi Minh City and other southern localities are happy to be able welcome Tet in peace in their hometown.

They feel more clearly the province's support for those who were far away from home in difficult times. Over the past few days, they have also been touched by assistance from people nationwide for Yen Bai when local infections were found.

Recently, Yen Bai province has faced concerning reproductive health statistics, with the pregnancy rate among women aged 15-19 reaching 15.5% in Mu Cang Chai district and 9.6% in Van Chan district. Home births remain prevalent, with 63.1% occurring in Mu Cang Chai and 13.5% in Van Chan.
