The class, which offered history lessons on "Yen Bai from the primitive time to 10th century” for sixth graders, connected the provincial museum and secondary schools across the province.

Principal of the school Dang Thu Ha said the local history class connected her school with seven locations, from tens to 200km away from each other, with the participation of nearly 1,000 sixth graders. The class has shortened the geographic distance to bring all the students together at the same time.

During the class, students were provided with a wide range of historic artifacts, documents and photos archived by the provincial museum which acted as visual aids to capture students’ attention and make the lessons more interesting. The class also saw more exciting interactions between students and teachers at different locations through a Q&A session.

Schools have improved their computer systems and Internet access speed to ensure the quality of the class.

Sung Thi Thu, a student from Mu Cang Chai’s Che Tao semi-boarding ethnic minority primary and secondary school, the furthest location, said she was very excited to join the class. "I was able to not only see and listen to the province’s history through artifacts and documents preserved by the museum in order to have a better understanding of the local history but also interact with students from other schools.”

Tran Huong Giang from the Quang Trung Secondary School said she really likes the class, because the real experience it provided helped her understand better and learn faster. "Such experience cannot be found from reading books.”

The "borderless class” not only provided a space for teachers and students to exchange and improve knowledge and skills, but also increased solidarity among schools in the province.

It formed part of efforts by Quang Trung school to adapt to the "new normal” at the time of COVID-19.
