Yen Bai organises commune-level forum to collect children’s ideas

YBO - The Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Yen Bai province, in collaboration with World Vision Vietnam, organised a forum at the commune level from August 3-11 to collect children’s ideas in 2021, with the following topics of “Children with children's issues, especially physical violence, violence on the cyber space”, “Children join hands in ensuring children’s rights and protecting children during natural disasters and diseases’.

The forum was held in various communes: namely Lam Thuong and Khanh Thien (Luc Yen district), Vu Linh (Yen Binh district), Suoi Giang (Van Chan district), and Phuc Son (Nghia Lo township).

At the events, through discussions and dialogues, children were provided with knowledge and skills to detect issues related to children’s rights, and practice skills to participate in and evaluate social issues; guided on methods of information collection on issues related to children’s rights. Children also discussed topics of children with children’s issues and children joining hands to ensure the implementation of children’s rights, and protecting children during natural disasters and diseases.

Participating children also exchanged views on the actual situation of realising children's rights, protecting children during natural disasters and diseases; children's rights to participate in social issues; acts and violations of children's rights in the locality; the implementation of guidelines and policies of the Party and State on the protection, care and education of children in the locality; and local social issues related to children.

In addition, children also had the opportunity to show their talents, express opinions and communicate through presentations, painting and making plays; and have direct dialogues with provincial, district and commune officials about issues of concern to them and give messages, recommendations and initiatives.

The forum contributed to raising participating children’s awareness of their own roles and responsibilities in representing voices and aspirations of local children and offered opportunities for them to improve their capacity of participating in issues they concern; and promoting the best implementation of children’s rights.

Recently, Yen Bai province has faced concerning reproductive health statistics, with the pregnancy rate among women aged 15-19 reaching 15.5% in Mu Cang Chai district and 9.6% in Van Chan district. Home births remain prevalent, with 63.1% occurring in Mu Cang Chai and 13.5% in Van Chan.
