Lung Cung peak, at an altitude of 2,913 metres, is one of the top 15 highest peaks in Vietnam.

In the past few years, Lung Cung has attracted a large number of climbers thanks to its beautiful mountainous terrain and a short climbing route with moderate difficulty. It is also an ideal place to "hunt” for clouds, especially to watch both sunset and sunrise among a sea of clouds.

Located in the Hoang Lien Son range, Lung Cung peak is named after a village in the rugged mountains in Nam Co, Mu Cang Chai. From the foot of the mountain to the top is 20km.

On a scale of one to 10, the beauty of Lung Cung is rated nine and its difficulty, five. Among the three most popular trekking routes in Yen Bai province - Ta Xua, Ta Chi Nhu, and Lung Cung, the last is considered the easiest to conquer by climbers.

However, conquering Lung Cung peak is also quite arduous because of its steep slopes. Climbers usually start from Tu Le, going along 15km of the rocky road to Tu San village where they start their trekking to Lung Cung peak.

Leaving Tu San village, trekkers immediately face steep slopes that require great strength from climbers from the very first steps. However, it is not a too hard nut to crack if they have good physical preparation.

The deeper they go, the denser and more murky the forest is. The images of the slopes appear glimmer at first and then clearer. Beautiful scenes like a fairyland will make any witnesses wow, especially when they approach beautiful waterfalls.

Moreover, climbers will have opportunities to explore a system of diverse and extremely pristine primeval forests including reeds forest, ancient chestnut tree forest, Nam Co bamboo forest, red maple forest,  rhododendron forest, and ancient docynia forest. Therefore, in each season of the year, Lung Cung possesses a different beauty.

According to experienced natives, the sunrise on the top is the most valuable in the journey, but it depends on many weather factors. At 5am, a group of trekkers set off, it’s still dark and frosty. The trekkers use flashlights and keep climbing up to the top of the mountain. The higher they climb, the clearer the starry sky appears. A sea of clouds glimmer in the night.

Approaching the peak, winds blow stronger and stronger. Far away, at the foot of the mountains, villages appear tiny. There is a wide flat surface on the top of Lung Cung, with panoramic views of Lung Cung Valley, Che Cu Nha commune (Yen Bai Province), and the communes of Van Ban district (Lao Cao province). Reaching the peak, trekkers enjoy a spectacular view and seemingly forget all the hardship and exhaustion they have endured through the journey.
