  •  Friday, April 7, 2023

YBO -After years of preparation, at the beginning of 2023, the silk cocoon processing factory of the Yen Bai Sericulture JSC in Bao Dap commune, Tran Yen district was officially put into operation. Initially, two silk incubator chains for export will be launched, creating jobs for nearly 100 local workers.

The two chains have a combined capacity of producing 150 tonnes of silk per year, equivalent to 1,100 tonnes of cocoons. After being processed, the silk will be exported to India, Japan and European countries.

Vu Xuan Thuong, Director of the company, said that the materials for the plants are mostly bought in Tan Yen and from other local districts. He said that the factory can buy all cocoons from local sericulture farmers by signing contracts with cooperatives and traders with a stable price. At the same time, the company has introduced competent suppliers of silkworm eggs and materials for sericulture to cooperatives and silkworm farming households.

In the second phase, the factory will have two additional silk incubator rigs to double its capacity. It means the company will cooperate with localities to expand the scale of mulberry cultivation for sericulture, improving the quality of labour resources, and strengthening technical support to cooperatives and households to raise silkworms to increase the output and quality of cocoons.

To date, Tran Yen district has developed a mulberry region of 850 hectares with more than 1,500 silkworm raising households.

The production of silkworm cocoons in the whole district in 2022 reached 1,168 tonnes, with prices varying from 200-250 million VND (8,529-10,662 USD) per hectare per year. The district has designed a plan to expand the scale of mulberry farming for sericulture towards 2025 to 1,200 hectares, while maintaining the linkage among production groups and households, and applying technical measures to ensure efficient production, thus striving for annual output of silkworm cocoons of over 2,200 tonnes, with a value of over 300 billion VND.

Nguyen Thanh Le, Vice Chairman of Tran Yen People's Committee, said that the operation of the silkworm cocoons processing factory is a big turning point of the locality, helping locals expand the production area. This is also a premise for the district to attract more businesses engaging in purchasing and process products from silkworm cocoons.
