Along with cultivating some new rice varieties such as Seng Cu, ST24, ST25 in Khao Mang, Lao Chai and Nam Co communes, the district has focused on expanding areas Tan sticky rice in Cao Pha and Nam communes towards high-quality rice production.

Giang A Thenh, Vice Chairman of Cao Pha Commune People's Committee, said the locality planted about 100 hectares or Tan sticky rice in the 2021 summer-autumn crop and its output reached 500 tonnes.

This year, the commune has encouraged locals to cultivate in accordance with the zoning plan to facilitate the management in areas totaling over 100 hectares.

Khau Pha Organic Agriculture Cooperative was established last year and is led by Lo Van Thuan who resides in Lim Thai village.

Thuan said that the cooperative has collaborated with two farmers' associations with 60 members in the commune to cultivate Tan sticky rice in a total area of over 14 hectares and reaped a total output of over 71 tonnes a year.

Currently, the cooperative buys unhusked rice from locals with prices ranging from about 18,000 VND to 20,000 VND (0.77-0.85 USD) per kg.

As a result of the strict following of the process of selecting varieties, caring, harvesting, and processing, Tan sticky rice of the cooperative always ensures quality, and has been ordered by many shops which specialise in selling specialty rice in the province.

In addition to realising the goal of cultivating 250 hectares of Tan sticky rice in Nam Co and Cao Pha communes and achieve the output of over 1,000 tonnes, Mu Cang Chai district is striving to reach the target of obtaining 560 billion VND in the total agriculture, forestry and fishery production value.
