The province is transitioning from traditional farming to organic and high-tech agriculture. Businesses and cooperatives in Yen Bai are actively investing in organic farming and applying science and technology to enhance production efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.

The adoption of water-saving irrigation systems, organic fertilizers, and smart farming technologies helps reduce resource waste and increase productivity. Notable examples include organic cinnamon production in Van Yen and Tran Yen districts. Additionally, livestock farming is being developed on a concentrated and sustainable scale. Large-scale farms with modern processes and biotechnology applications are reducing emissions and protecting the environment while achieving high economic efficiency.

By the end of 2024, Yen Bai had established specialized production zones for key agricultural and forestry products, including nearly 78,000 hectares of cinnamon, over 6,600 hectares of Bat Do bamboo shoots, and nearly 10,000 hectares of Son Tra fruit trees.

The agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector is estimated to account for 21.62% of the province’s GRDP. The average value of aquaculture production per hectare of water surface reached 200 million VND, nearly double that of 2015.
