The district is home to about 4,500 ha of tea cultivation areas, the largest in Yen Bai.
The increase is attributable to favourable weather conditions at the start of the crop, early rains and efforts by tea growers.

With average prices of 3,000 - 4,000 VND (0.13-0.8 USD) per kg for tea grown in region of lower altitude and 6,000 - 8,000 VND per kg for Shan tea, local growers earned dozens of billions of dong.
To raise the value of tea, Van Chan has been proactive in calling on local growers to apply the VietGap standards and work to improve quality of the products so as to provide for processing facilities in the locality.

In addition, local authorities have urged people and firms to maintain cultivation areas, better quality products and expand markets, with a target to harvest 46,000 tonnes of tea this year, thereby raising local people’s income.
