As part of the cooperation program for the period 2023-2027, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, ActionAid International in Vietnam (ActionAid), and the Vietnam Social Program Support Fund (AFV) recently held a working session in Yen Bai to survey and prepare for the implementation of the project "Supporting the community of Yen Bai Province in recovery from Typhoon Yagi" (Yagi-YB Project).

With a budget of 3 billion VND, the Yagi-YB Project is expected to be implemented in Yen Bai City and Tran Yen District to assist residents of five flood-affected communes and wards in improving environmental sanitation, disinfecting, and proactively restoring livelihoods following the floods. Additionally, it aims to enhance the capacity of local women, youth, and children in community-based disaster risk management.

At the working session, Ms. Hoang Phuong Thao, the Representative of ActionAid International in Vietnam, stated that a task force comprising officials and experts from various fields has been established, including a global advisor from ActionAid International specializing in emergency relief. This team is timely collaborating with the local authorities to develop practical, suitable, and effective support content. Currently, ActionAid Vietnam is implementing support activities in four provinces and cities: Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Lao Cai, and Yen Bai. In Yen Bai, in partnership with the Youth Union, ActionAid International aims to enhance the role and contributions of youth in working together with the community to address the aftermath of floods and rebuild after disasters.

In addition, regarding the damages and difficulties that the locality is facing during the recovery from flooding, representatives of the Yen Bai Provincial Youth Union expressed their hope that, with the support of ActionAid and the AFV Fund, various levels of the Youth Union, particularly the Yen Bai City Youth Union and the Tran Yen District Youth Union, will play a leading role in youth-led initiatives that assist residents in environmental sanitation, restore livelihoods, and facilitate a prompt recovery from floods while enhancing long-term community-based disaster risk management capabilities.

During the working program, the task force visited households affected by flooding to survey and assess the support needs of youth and residents. They also explored youth involvement models in environmental protection aimed at sustainable development in Tran Yen District and Yen Bai City.
