Yen Bai honours 30 exemplary prestigious persons of ethnic minorities

(YBO) – The Yen Bai provincial People’s Committee held a conference on November 10 to honour 30 exemplary prestigious persons from local ethnic minority areas in 2023.

The event was attended by 150 delegates representing 870 prestigious persons from ethnic minority areas across the province. They are elderly villagers, heads of clans and hamlets, retirees, religious dignitaries, teachers, doctors, intellectuals, those excelling in production and business, Party members, and the ones with substantial contributions to local socio-economic development, security and order safeguarding, and the Party and political system building.

In their speeches, representatives of the delegates highlighted the key role of prestigious persons in promoting activities at the grassroots level, developing livelihoods, setting up security and order self-management teams, and encouraging locals to donate land to serve the construction of rural roads and welfare facilities. They said prestigious persons have taken the lead in boosting socio-economic development, eradicating poverty, and calling on people to abolish backward customs and not violate immigration rules.

Addressing the event, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Huy Tuan asked Party committees, administrations, and organisations at all levels to effectively implement the policies for prestigious persons, as well as the national target programme on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas during 2021 - 2030.

He demanded patriotic emulation movements be further launched and implemented, the role of prestigious persons in communications activities brought into play to encourage ethnic minority people to join socio-economic development programmes and the Party and political system building and rectification, and due attention paid to the training of prestigious persons to ensure they meet requirements and fulfill tasks.

At the conference, 30 exemplary prestigious persons of ethnic minorities in Yen Bai were granted the certificates of merit by the provincial People’s Committee in recognition of their outstanding achievements during 2018 - 2022. The Yen Bai branch of the Military Industry and Telecoms Group Viettel also helped 870 prestigious persons subscribe telephone services.

As part of the implementation of the 2021–2025 National Target Programs (NTPs), Tran Yen District has disbursed over VND 70 billion as of the end of March 2025.
