1. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh paid a visit to Yen Bai province during which he examined some key projects, had a working session with the provincial Party Committee, and attended a ceremony to receive a UNESCO certificate recognising the art of Xoe dance of the Thai ethnic people as part of the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
2. The Party and political system building reaped many important results, including improving the effectiveness of the political system’s operations, personnel affairs, along with examination and supervision activities. In 2022, 1,892 people were admitted to the Party, up 5.1% from the target. The province’s steering committee for corruption and negative phenomena prevention and control was also set up. Besides, Yen Bai completed the compilation and publication of Volume 3, for the 2001 - 2020 period, of the book on the local Party organisation’s history.
3. The economy maintained good growth. The gross regional domestic product (GRDP) increased 8.62% in 2022, the highest since 2015. Meanwhile, local GRDP growth averaged 7.86% annually since the start of the 2020 - 2025 tenure, giving Yen Bai the third position among the 14 northern midland and mountainous provinces. The province also recorded a surge in state budget collection, equivalent to 179.4% of the target set by the Government and also higher than that set by the provincial People’s Council.
4. Infrastructure continued to receive due investment, creating a strong impulse for socio-economic development. In particular, Yen Bai started the construction and upgrade of five key transport projects connected with Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway, along with a transport infrastructure project that aims to link and boost socio-economic development in poor districts.
5. Digital transformation was strongly promoted. Many digital transformation models were built and multiplied. Yen Bai was the first locality nationwide to have issued communal-level digital transformation plans, and also one of the first three provinces to have established community-based digital transformation groups at all communal-level localities and hamlet-level ones. In 2022, it ranked 27th of the 63 provinces and cities in the Digital Transformation Index rankings, up 13 places from 2020.
6. Yen Bai remains a bright spot in the building of new-style rural areas in the northwestern region. In 2022, another 11 communes were recognised as new-style rural areas, raising the number of such communes to 99, equivalent to 66% of the total province-wide. Particularly, 10 communes have met advanced criteria while three others recognised as model ones.
7. Many encouraging results in cultural and social affairs were obtained. Yen Bai successfully held a ceremony for receiving the UNESCO certificate recognising the Thai ethnic people’s art of Xoe dance as part of the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Meanwhile, local tourism has recovered strongly. The province welcomed nearly 1.6 million tourist arrivals, equivalent to 144.4% of the target and doubling the figure in 2021. The household poverty rate was reduced by 5.05%, 1.05% higher than the target. The people’s happiness index reached 62.57%, 1.37% higher than the target.
8. Yen Bai province coordinated with the Ministry of National Defence and the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education to successfully organise a national symposium titled "1952 Tay Bac (Northwest) Victory – Historical stature and lessons”.
9. External relations and communications about seas and islands were promoted. Last year, Yen Bai strongly and concertedly combined the Party, State, and people-to-eople diplomacy. Notably, provincial leaders made working trips to Japan and Laos and visited officers, soldiers, and residents in Truong Sa island district of Khanh Hoa province and DK1 platforms in Vietnam’s southern continental shelf.
10. Defence and security were enhanced while political security and social order and safety were guaranteed. Provincial authorities issued directions for successfully holding exercises of district-level defence zones in Van Yen and Van Chan districts and Nghia Lo town. The province ensured absolute security and safety for major political, economic, and cultural events, as well as visits by Party and State leaders. In addition, the local living environment and the investment and business climate stay safe and healthy.
