  •  Tuesday, September 8, 2020

Home to 57,000 Tay ethnic people, one third of the province’s total Tay ethnic population, Luc Yen district has worked tirelessly to preserve traditional culture, especially language, costumes, practices, and especially then singing - “spirit” of the Tay people.

In 2015, Tay artisan Hoang Quang Nhan in Muong Lai commune was presented Meritorious Artist title for his great contributions to preserving and promoting national cultural heritages.

Nhan has a collection of hundreds of traditional songs and dances like khap coi, dang ma, dam thuong and luan but, which are set on stage carefully.

He has enthusiastically inspired younger generations. Many of his stellar students won big prizes at the local and national traditional singing contests, including Ma Thi Hong Chan, Do Van Viet and Hoang Thi Trang.

Meanwhile, meritorious artist Hoang Quang Nung, born in 1939, spent his whole life collecting and composing songs that depict patriotism of Tay, Nung and Xa Pho people.

Luc Yen district has 35 culture, art and sport clubs and over 220 art troupes in hamlets and villages. There are many clubs set up by Tay ethnic people, including those in To Mau, Muong Lai and Minh Xuan communes.

In a bid to promote traditional values of ethnic minority groups in the locality, the centre for communications and culture of Luc Yen has proposed the district authorities restore traditional festivals, and folk songs while  giving support to communes to arrange art programmes.
