High-productivity economic zones formed in Yen Bai city

YBO - In recent years, the Farmers’ Association of Yen Bai city has reformed and improved the effectiveness of its activities in order to support local farmers in production development, application of science and technology in production.

Local farmers have also received assistance in building trademarks for their products, and forming economic zones with high productivity and product quality. 

Annually, the association has coordinated with the centre for agricultural service and development support of the city to organise over 60 training courses on transferring science and technology on pest control for rice and citrus fruit, and aquaculture techniques to more than 3,000 members. 

It has also cooperated with enterprises to hold 15 consultation sessions on the use of bio-fertilizers, plant protection substances, and probiotics in animal husbandry for nearly 500 people; and provide 665 tonnes of fertilizer with late payments and nearly 6 tonnes of seeds for local farmers. 

These activities have contributed to forming key economic zones with high economic efficiency such safe vegetable growing areas in Van Phu, Tuy Loc, Au Lau; tea cultivation areas in Bao Hung, Minh Bao and Au Lau; freshwater fish farming zones in Au Lau, Van Phu, and Nam Cuong; pig and poultry farming areas in Tan Thinh, Yen Thinh and Hop Minh, and a commercial turtle farming area in Yen Ninh. 

The association has also cooperated with the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies’ chapter in Yen Bai city to lend over 44 billion VND to 1,274 members, helping them develop production.  

It also provided over 1.4 billion VND through the farmer support fund to 13 project models, benefiting 65 member households. 

According to the association, the movement "Farmers strive for good production and business, unite to help each other make wealth and achieve sustainable poverty reduction” in the locality attracts the involvement of 3,400 households every year, with many of them having yearly income from 100-300 million VND.

In 2024, Nghia Lo Town developed seven new products meeting the 3-star OCOP standard and reevaluated seven products after three years of certification.

Yen Bai develops comprehensive transportation infrastructure, prioritizing projects that connect national highways with the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway, regional linkage projects, and those connecting Yen Bai province with localities in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous region. The focus is on key projects and several important regional and inter-regional connecting roads. As of now, the transportation infrastructure system in Yen Bai has achieved significant progress.

Yen Bai currently boasts over 7,440 hectares of tea cultivation, producing more than 69,000 tons annually.

The global Halal market is valued at approximately USD 5 trillion annually, with a strong demand for cinnamon and tea products. This presents significant export opportunities for Yen Bai Province.

In 2024, Yen Bai City achieved vocational training for 2,259 individuals, exceeding the target of 1,790 by 115%. Of this total, 578 people were trained at the college level, achieving 125% of the assigned target of 461.
