Yen Bai leaders meet entrepreneurs, investors

YBO - The provincial People’s Committee on March 27 organised a meeting with entrepreneurs and investors in 2022, with the presence of over 150 delegates.

Over the past time, with the companionship and support of the business community and locals, the pandemic was basically put under control and positive economic growth was maintained. Last year, Yen Bai’s GDP growth reached 7.11 percent, ranking second among 14 northern mountainous and midland provinces and 12th among 63 provinces and cities nationwide.

In the year, the locality saw the establishment of 330 new enterprises (up 15.8 percent against 2020), and 87 cooperatives (equal to 145 percent of the plan), bringing the total numbers to over 2,600 and 582, respectively. Enterprises contributed over 1.38 trillion VND (around 60 million USD) to the state budget, accounting for 58.5 percent of the total balanced revenue in the province. They create jobs and stable income for nearly 43,600 people with an average monthly income of 5.8 million VND.

In addition, the province issued new investment certificates for 54 projects with a total registered capital of nearly 7.05 trillion VND. As of March 15, the province had 585 projects with a total registered capital of 86.9 trillion VND and 465.7 million USD.

In 2021, local enterprises and cooperatives actively participated in poverty reduction, social welfare and humanitarian activities in the locality with a total aid of over 30 billion VND.

Informing participants on Yen Bai’s socio-economic development situation in 2021 and the first months of 2022, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Tran Huy Tuan acknowledged and thanked the contributions by the business community. He proposed Party committees and authorities at all levels give advice to the provincial People's Committee to synchronously and effectively implement the Government’s and the locality’s policies on supporting businesses and economic development, especially those related to ensuring social welfare and supporting the recovery of enterprises, cooperatives and business households affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He stressed the need to maintain comprehensive and synchronous administrative reform in order to improve the efficiency of investment attraction in the province, and to select investors with financial potential and prestige and those using environmentally-friendly technology.

BIDV grants 6.5 billion VND to Yen Bai to build a primary-secondary school in Ngoc Chan commune, Yen Binh district.

It is necessary to actively implement incentive policies to support investment and develop economic sectors in the 2021 - 2025 period, intensify assistance for technology innovation, application of science and technology in production and business, and encourage start-ups and digital transformation.

Sectors and localities need to improve the quality of business support activities such as trade promotion, human resources training, and brand building, he added.

At the meeting, the provincial People's Committee handed over decisions approving investment intention to 9 projects in various fields.

On this occasion, businesses gave gifts worth 20.7 billion VND to the needy and 400 tonnes of cement to support the construction of schools, bridges, roads in some disadvantageous communes in Yen Bai province.

The global Halal market is valued at approximately USD 5 trillion annually, with a strong demand for cinnamon and tea products. This presents significant export opportunities for Yen Bai Province.

In 2024, Yen Bai City achieved vocational training for 2,259 individuals, exceeding the target of 1,790 by 115%. Of this total, 578 people were trained at the college level, achieving 125% of the assigned target of 461.
