Luc Yen makes breakthrough in OCOP programme

YBO - Luc Yen district has 12 products that earn three-star rating in Yen Bai province’s ‘One Commune, One Product’ programme.

Thai Son cooperative is home to five three-star OCOP products. The cooperative earns more than 4 billion VND a year and creates stable jobs for over 30 local workers with a monthly salary of 5 million VND (220 USD) per person.

Its products have hit the shelves of stores and supermarkets in the province and other localities, being favoured by consumers.

The cooperative has bolstered sales via Zalo messaging app, Facebook and websites to reach out to more customers, thereby gradually improving agricultural products of the district and province at large.

To effectively implement the OCOP programme, Luc Yen has paid heed to fine-tune the evaluation council so as to uphold its role in steering, inspection and assessment of local staples.

After three years, the OCOP programme reaped positive results and helped raise public awareness of the its role in rural economic development. 

The programme also supports owners to improve their products to meet market requirements, shift economic structure and raise income and meet an economic criterion in building new-style rural areas.
The OCOP programme has helped promote brands and staples of localities and regions, as well as help businesses introduce their products and boost sales.

Luc Yen is home to 12 three-star OCOP products, of which five of Thai Son cooperative received recognition in 2019.

The products are of high quality and have appealing packaging, as well as fulfil requirements on stamp, label and origin tracing.

In the coming time, Luc Yen will continue to review and identify goods made from local specialties to turn them into OCOP products. It aims to have at least 30 OCOP products rated three-star and above by the end of 2025.

In 2024, Nghia Lo Town developed seven new products meeting the 3-star OCOP standard and reevaluated seven products after three years of certification.

The project connects transportation in the northern mountainous provinces and links Nghia Lo to the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway.

Yen Bai develops comprehensive transportation infrastructure, prioritizing projects that connect national highways with the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway, regional linkage projects, and those connecting Yen Bai province with localities in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous region. The focus is on key projects and several important regional and inter-regional connecting roads. As of now, the transportation infrastructure system in Yen Bai has achieved significant progress.

Yen Bai currently boasts over 7,440 hectares of tea cultivation, producing more than 69,000 tons annually.

The global Halal market is valued at approximately USD 5 trillion annually, with a strong demand for cinnamon and tea products. This presents significant export opportunities for Yen Bai Province.

In 2024, Yen Bai City achieved vocational training for 2,259 individuals, exceeding the target of 1,790 by 115%. Of this total, 578 people were trained at the college level, achieving 125% of the assigned target of 461.
