Under the action motto "Discipline, Creativity, Coordination, Breakthroughs, and Efficiency," Yen Bai's economic landscape in 2024 has shown remarkable progress. The province’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth rate exceeded targets, marking the second-highest growth in the past decade. Total grain output reached 309,958 tons, while the main livestock herd was estimated at 890,000, achieving 102.1% of the plan. A total of 113 out of 146 communes (77.4%) have met new rural standards, approaching the national average and exceeding the regional average by 1.5 times.
Yen Bai has successfully attracted several large-scale industrial investment projects, including infrastructure development in industrial parks and clusters, as well as major manufacturing and processing projects. The province's industrial production value (at 2010 constant prices) reached VND 18.4 trillion, meeting 100% of the target and growing by 8.7% compared to 2023. The Industrial Production Index increased to 109.2% of the previous year’s level, ranking 8th out of 14 provinces in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region.
Alongside economic development, Yen Bai has made significant strides in the cultural and social sectors. The province has achieved rapid and sustainable poverty reduction, with the poverty rate now at just 5.68%, ranking sixth in the region. Education quality, public healthcare, vocational training, and job creation have all improved. Ethnic cultural heritage continues to be preserved and promoted effectively. Additionally, the province has developed and refined 10 "made in Yen Bai" digital platforms and implemented various innovative and effective digital transformation models.
It is evident that Party committees, local governments, and the people of Yen Bai have transformed their guiding principles into concrete actions through well-structured plans, demonstrating strong determination to achieve breakthroughs in socio-economic development.
In 2025, Yen Bai will accelerate rural transportation development in conjunction with the implementation of national target programs.
Ha Duc Anh, Secretary of the Van Yen District Party Committee, stated that in 2024, Van Yen successfully met and exceeded 34 out of 35 key socio-economic development targets set by the District People's Council, with 22 targets surpassing expectations and 12 meeting planned goals. In line with the Provincial Party Committee’s Action Program No. 188, the district achieved and exceeded 43 out of 45 targets, with 32 surpassing expectations and 11 meeting the set goals.
Giang A Cau, Secretary of the Mu Cang Chai District Party Committee, highlighted that in 2024, the district's industrial and handicraft production value reached VND 590 billion, exceeding the annual target by 18%. The district also welcomed nearly 370,000 visitors, surpassing the tourism target by 5.7%, with tourism revenue reaching VND 388.4 billion, exceeding the plan by 11%. Notably, Mu Cang Chai successfully completed 604 out of 604 housing units under the Housing Support Project for poor and near-poor households, with a total disbursed budget of VND 20.945 billion, achieving 100% of the set target.
In 2025, Yen Bai has set its sights on accelerating progress, achieving breakthroughs, and reaching key milestones, striving to accomplish the highest possible results across all targets and tasks outlined in the 13th National Party Congress Resolution, the 19th Provincial Party Congress Resolution for the 2020-2025 term, and the 2025 Political Task Action Program. The province is committed to bold initiatives, proactive measures, and innovative thinking to effectively implement the planned objectives and solutions.
Yen Bai continues to harmonize socio-cultural progress with economic development, fostering a community spirit of friendliness, compassion, unity, creativity, and global integration. The province aims for rapid and sustainable poverty reduction, improving both material and spiritual well-being while enhancing the happiness index of its residents. Efforts will be made to improve human resources, particularly in agriculture, rural areas, and among ethnic minority communities, creating new job opportunities and facilitating labor restructuring. Additionally, Yen Bai will develop a high-caliber leadership team across various sectors, ensuring officials—especially key leaders—possess the competence, integrity, and credibility to meet evolving demands.
Accordingly, in 2025, Yen Bai aims to enroll and train approximately 18,000 people in vocational programs, achieve a 70% trained workforce, with 40% holding certificates or diplomas from programs lasting three months or more, generate over 20,000 new jobs, shift approximately 7,000 agricultural workers (2%) to non-agricultural sectors, strive for a happiness index of 68.3%, and reduce the poverty rate by 1.5 percentage points from 2024.
Yen Bai will maximize resources for infrastructure investment, with a primary focus on regional and inter-provincial transportation networks. The province will enhance connectivity between Yen Bai and neighboring provinces via the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway, collaborate on the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project, linking to Kunming, China, and expand rural transportation networks alongside national target programs. The province aims to achieve a total investment capital of over VND 22 trillion in 2025, laying a strong foundation for sustained economic and social development.
Continue to restructure the agricultural sector towards enhancing quality, efficiency, and value-added growth, promoting rural economic development in conjunction with sustainable new rural construction, striving for a growth rate of approximately 5.85% in the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector. Effectively implement industrial development strategies and solutions aligned with green growth principles, leveraging the province's potential and advantages, with the goal of achieving an industrial and construction sector growth rate of approximately 11.1%. Strengthen the commercial and service sectors by fostering professionalism, efficiency, and competitiveness, targeting a growth rate of approximately 7.52% in the services sector.
