>> Van Yen district works hard on preserving culinary culture

Organised by the Van Yen People’s Committee, it featured myriad enticing activities, including a cooking contest, a food fair introducing local specialties, and musical, cultural, and sport events.

The cooking competition made a highlight with the participation of 25 teams from 25 communes and towns in the district. Competitors prepared traditional dishes using local ingredients. The dishes of grilled snail and meat balls, ginseng chicken soup and grilled cinnamon-flavoured pork chops, among several others, earned top prizes.

The first Van Yen food festival was organised to restore, promote and popularise the district’s special culinary delights to locals and tourists. It also aimed to enrich the local list of typical dishes, encourage the production of raw materials, develop a gastronomic business in line with demand from the market, and open up a new direction of culinary tourism for the land of cinnamon.
