Yen Bai is home to more than 30 ethnic minority groups with different cultures who live in harmony. Over the past years, the province has preserved, maintained and promoted folk games of local ethnic people in the locality.

In most festivals such as Gau Tao, Dong Cuong temple, Mau Thac Ba temple, Long Tong (going to the field), after ritual ceremonies, performances and competition of folk games are always the most exciting part of these events with many games bearing the identity of ethnic groups such as nem con (con throwing), pushing sticks, blindfolded catching ducks, spinning tops, climbing poles, tug-of-war.

Sung A Rua in Da Den village, Nam Co commune, said Gau Tao festival is a traditional game that also helps improve physical health. Everyone can play the game and interact while playing in a joyful atmosphere.

joining Dong Cuong temple festival, many foreign visitors expressed their delight as they had a chance to experience the locality’s traditional culture through various folk games, providing them a better insight into Vietnamese cultural values.
