Phinh Ho commune in Tram Tau district has over 620 hectares of Shan Tuyet tea, including 400 hectares of trees in harvesting period. Since the production chain for the product was set up, tea has become the major source of income for Mong ethnic minority community in the commune.

In the past three years, Hiep Thanh Tea Company Limited has helped local people to plant tea trees on nearly 200 more hectares of land, and instruct local farmers on sustainable tea cultivation. It has purchased all tea products from local farmers.
The company has built a factory in the commune, enabling it to buy about 5 tonnes of fresh tea per day from farmers in the two communes of Lang Nhi and Phinh Ho.

Currently, the company is producing three types of tea, namely green tea, white tea, and red tea for export to the European market. The products have been certified as meeting organic standards and received geographical indication. They are three-star OCOP products of the province.

The establishment of value chains for key products has helped local farmers sell their products at stable prices with low risk. They have also received assistance from businesses in varieties and farming equipment for production. Meanwhile, engaging in the chains, businesses also access material sources with managed quality.

In addition, the development of value chains in agricultural production has also made important contributions to the improvement of agricultural product quality and farm produce’s added value, while promoting sustainable agricultural development amid market fluctuations.

In the 2016-2020 period, 30 production projects in value chains were developed at total cost of 225.7 billion VND.

Last year, Yen Bai’s People’s Council issued 11 support policies to encourage agro-forestry-fisheries productions and the organisation of production into value chains with the linkage of businesses, cooperatives and cooperative federations.

As of the end of the year, the province had supported the development of 25 value chains, contributing to the expansion of many material areas, including 5,000 hectares of rice, 5,000 hectares of tea, 4,362 hectares of fruit trees, 700 hectares of mulberry, 38,100 hectares of cinnamon, 90,031 hectares of forest, and 3,165 ha of Son Tra (Fructus Crataegi)./.
