Out of 20 pilot projects approved nationwide by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, 10 have already received project and plan approvals, with Yen Bai among these select provinces.

Recognizing rural and community-based tourism development as a key task within the National Target Program for New Rural Development (2021-2025), Yen Bai has focused on upgrading and investing in rural tourism sites that align with new rural development standards. The province is working to cultivate distinctive local tourism products, emphasizing green, responsible, and sustainable tourism. Additionally, Yen Bai is enhancing rural tourism workforce quality and advancing digital technology applications to promote local tourism.

To promote and support the growth of rural tourism, Yen Bai province has introduced several mechanisms and policies that encourage individuals, cooperatives, and businesses to invest in agricultural tourism and rural tourism. Notably, Resolution No. 14 by the Provincial People's Council provides support for the "One Commune, One Product" (OCOP) Program and tourism development for various stakeholders including businesses, cooperatives, organizations, and households involved in tourism-related activities. Additionally, Resolution No. 10 delves deeper into enhancing infrastructure, improving human resources, and advancing the promotion and development of tourism resources.

As part of the pilot program for rural tourism development, Yen Bai has set the goal of ensuring each locality has at least one recognized rural tourism site, integrating agriculture, culture, crafts, or ecological environments, aligning with the region's advantages.

Furthermore, the province is focusing on regions with potential for agricultural production, aiming to enhance the landscape and surrounding environment to create a foundation for developing agricultural tourism experiences (farmstay), eco-tourism combined with local culture, and more. This strategy aims to diversify and expand Yen Bai's tourism offerings, providing visitors with unique experiences while promoting sustainable economic growth.

Yen Bai is also aiming for 100% of rural tourism businesses to be recognized for meeting standards for serving tourists, and for 50% of rural tourism sites to implement digital transformation in management, business operations, and product promotion.
