Dong Cuong Temple is located in Ben Den village, Dong Cuong commune, Van Yen district, on the bank of the Hong (Red) River.  

The temple worships Mau ThuongNgan, the second Mother Goddess in the Tam Phu Mother Goddesses worship ritual of Vietnamese people, along with national heroes who laid down their lives during struggles against Mongol invaders in the 18th century and leaders from Tay ethnic minority groups who died during the uprising against French colonists in 1914.

Particularly, it is a place for the practicing of the worship of Tam Phu Mother Goddesses of Vietnamese people, which was recognised by the UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. With its great values, the temple has become a popular destination for many tourists on their New Year spiritual journey.

The Dong Cuong Temple Festival was recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage on January 16, 2023.

Along with festive activities on the opening day, the 2024 Dong Cuong Temple Festival also includes diverse rituals such as welcoming the shaman to the temple, white buffalo sacrificing ceremony, praising ceremony, incense offering ceremony, and a Mother Goddess procession ceremony.

A photo exhibition featuring the land and people of Van Yen has also been organised, along with folk games such as tug of war, cotton ball throwing, and traditional wrestling.

This year’s festival aims to continue promoting the traditional values of the festival, promoting the movement of "all people unite to build life of culture,” preserving and developing the traditional cultural values, and meeting the cultural and spiritual needs of locals.

Through the festival, Van Yen also aims to promote the image of the Dong Cuong Temple national historical-cultural relic site to tourists inside and outside the country, thus creating a breakthrough for the local spiritual tourism and boosting the local socio-economic growth./.
