Dong Cuong Temple Festival 2024 will be held on February 20 - 21 (the 11th and 12th days of the first month of the Year of the Dragon).
Dong Cuong Temple Festival 2024 will be held on February 20 - 21 (the 11th and 12th days of the first month of the Year of the Dragon).

The festival will open with a welcome rite for thay mo or shaman and an incense offering ceremony in the central yard area. The buffalo offering ritual will take place at midnight in front of the temple. The ritual bears spiritual and traditional features, reflecting the customs of the Tay people.

Along with the sacrificial ritual at the main temple, blessed gifts will be distributed to residents and visitors who pray for wealth, fortune, and peace in the new year.

After the buffalo slaughtering and praying rituals comes the procession of the Mother Goddess palanquin across the river by a large boat. This is one of the main rituals of the festival. Once the palanquin is brought back to the temple, a rite is held to offer incense to the Mother Goddess to pray for peace in the country and people, good crops and a happy life.

A range of exciting activities will be held following the ceremony, including a photo exhibition with the theme "Land and people of Van Yen", sports competitions and folk games.

Dong Cuong Temple Festival was recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage in January 2023. This is not only an honour but also a motivation for Van Yen district to preserve and promote the heritage value of Dong Cuong Temple traditional festival and other cultural heritages in the locality in line with the motto "people are the centre and subject of activities” and "turning heritage into assets", serving local socio-economic development.
