The quality of the new recruits has improved this year as each candidate has been considered carefully during the recruitment process in order to provide qualified soldiers for the army.

More than 85 percent of the new recruits are between 18 and 21 years old while 77 percent meet first- and second-level physical standards. Over 40 percent of the recruits are from ethnic minority groups. Of the recruits, 164 have voluntarily signed up and 17 are members of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council Pham Thi Thanh Tra encourages the new recruits.

The see-off ceremonies, while solemnly, took place in only around 30 minutes with not many people encouraged to take part in as part of preventive measures against the spread of the new coronavirus.

All the new soldiers had their temperature checked and were given face masks before boarding buses to go to their designated military units.

Leaders of the city and districts earlier visited and presented gifts to the new soldiers’ families as a gesture of encouragement.
